ABA Techshow questions….

I was thinking about attending the ABA Techshow this March 25-27. You can find the information about the Techshow at www.techshow.com.  I was hoping those of you who have been in the past could offer me some advice.  I have a few questions about attending:

1. Is it worth it while I am still in law school?

2. If I choose to take my wife will she get bored in the room waiting for the night to arrive?

3. Is it a very big turnout?

4. How much do you think you have benefited from this in the past?

Please any advice you have would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

  1. Michael, if I wasn’t speaking at the GP/Solo and Small Firm Annual in Orlando at that time I would be going to Chicago. It is much more geared to solos. Many names you know will be there: Carolyn Elefant, Niki Black (both speaking), Lisa Solomon, Matt Homman, Ari Kaplan is the keynote speaker. It’s a virtual who’s who and can be beneficial. You have to decide if you are still in law school if you should wait until you are out? Or take the family to Orlando and join me!

  2. If you can get into Tech Show for free as a student, then you should consider going since the fee is somewhat pricey. I don’t know where you are located physically, but Chicago is usually a pretty cheap flight and you can find relatively inexpensive hotels.
I think a student, you would benefit from TechShow. I think what is best is the diversity – between somewhat old school technology types and newer, cutting edge SAAS/cloud people. I think that understanding the old school/new school dichotomy can be a tremendous benefit for a new grad because it would give you the tools to help older solos transition to new technology – and thus, make you useful in their practices (e.g., team up with older solo and help make the transition, then you could buy out the firm – one potential biz model) Tech Show always has a terrific vibe and you will learn tons of new information that will be very usable in practice. Also – it does not completely conflict with Susan’s conference – there’s not an enormous amount of overlap.
